1. Wave Physics: from sound to seismic and tsunami waves.

A journey into the geospheres, between earth, water and air, with seismic and gravity waves. The "sound" we perceive, with its different melodies and rhythms, allows us to understand the physical complexity of the Earth system. At the same time, between the folds of the score, we sense our
vulnerability, exposed to natural risks that we must know how to interpret and manage. The talk, with multidisciplinary contents, will explore the
use of physical laws and models for the study of the dynamics of the complex Earth system.

2. Seismology and seismic hazard assessment.

The talk will give both theoretical and technical knowledge on the seismic hazard assessment, at different spatial scales, aimed at a risk analysis. With such an aim, the physical bases, the different methodologies applicable to the various contexts, as well as the European guidelines and regulations will be described and discussed. In fact, for relevant engineering purposes or for historical buildings and monuments, a viable alternative to standard estimates of seismic hazard is represented by the use of the scenario earthquakes, characterized in terms of magnitude, distance and faulting style, and taking into account the complexity of the kinematic source rupturing process. This multi-scenario-based method naturally supplies realistic time series of ground motions that are readily applicable to engineering analyses.
